You Don't Know Me
By Juli Arnett

Picture
You don't know me; you think you do,
Just because you see me act differently from you.
I require happiness and enjoy things as well.
I just don't understand your reasons you tell.

My life should be simple, but it's very confusing.
The social simplicities you grace keep me from connecting and fusing.
You may think I don't need them because I don't try,
But knowing I may feel left out or alone leaves you to wonder why.

The ordering of my world gives me comfort and security.
Knowing what comes next, being able to escape, helps me survive the obscurity.
If I can't follow your lead or keep up with your life, Please don't leave me to flounder, even if my ways bring strife, My clothes feel like needles touching my skin.
The humming of the light overrides everything within. If I could just control the world, I could make it my way. Until then, I am the foreigner in culture shock from my day.  If there is one thing in your mind I would like you to keep, It is that I live by the rules and going beyond is a step too steep. The only thing I ask is that you never forget, I can only learn, grow, and understand, if you give your time, patience, and acceptance, Then you can begin to know me.
